Safari vehicles in the Masai Mara, Kenya — a top contender in the World Travel Awards Africa 2026

The World Travel Awards (WTA) Africa Gala Ceremony takes place tomorrow, 28 August 2026, at Diamonds Bijoux Zanzibar, with Kenya positioned as one of the continent’s most-nominated countries across safari, airline, and destination categories.

Kenya’s Nominations

Kenya Airways is in the running for a double tech recognition — nominated in the digital innovation category for two distinct platform upgrades rolled out this year. On the ground, several of Kenya’s iconic safari operators and lodges have been nominated in the “Africa’s Leading Safari Company” and “Africa’s Leading Safari Lodge” categories, reflecting a strong 2025–26 booking season across the Masai Mara and Amboseli.

The Masai Mara is directly cited in the WTA nomination materials as one of Africa’s top wildlife destinations, with multiple conservancy-based camps entering the running for the first time alongside established operator names.

What the Awards Measure

The WTAs have run since 1993 and are largely peer and public-voted, with nominations drawn from travel industry professionals and travellers who have experienced the product. A win carries weight in the luxury and high-end travel segment — East African lodges and airlines routinely use WTA recognition in marketing, and award-winning operators typically see a bump in enquiries.

Timing and This Season’s Visitors

If you’re planning a Masai Mara visit later this year, the award results will be published on 28 August and can serve as a useful shortlist when comparing safari operators. We will update our recommendations once the full winners list is confirmed.

The Masai Mara tours we cover include both large established operators and smaller conservancy-based camps — some of which are nominated this year. Prices and availability for the October–November migration peak are tightening, so booking sooner is advisable regardless of which company eventually takes home an award.

How to Follow the Results

WTA announces winners at the gala and publishes the full list at worldtravelawards.com shortly after the ceremony. Results for Africa’s leading destinations, safaris, hotels, and airlines will be available from the evening of 28 August local time.
