Expect warm, mostly dry weather: roughly 31°C by day on the coast, 25-26°C in Nairobi with a cool night near 14°C, and a light jacket for the Masai Mara. New Year’s Eve in Kenya runs from black-tie hotel galas in Nairobi to barefoot beach parties on Diani and a bush dinner with a fire and a countdown beneath a clear sky. Event line-ups for 31 December 2026 going into 2027 are normally confirmed in October and November, so treat the venues below as recurring annual events and verify dates and prices with the host before you pay. All prices are approximately and as of 2026.
For the longer trip, our Kenya New Year itinerary builds a route around the night, and our Kenya in December guide covers conditions across the month.
Nairobi: Galas, Rooftops and Concerts
Fairmont The Norfolk (CBD). A formal NYE gala with dinner, live music and a countdown. Tickets typically start from approximately KES 15,000 per person, and they sell out four to six weeks ahead. Rooms from approximately USD 280 a night, higher on 31 December.
Radisson Blu Nairobi Upper Hill. A rooftop NYE event with views across the city. Expect a mid-range ticket in the KES 7,000-12,000 band for dinner and a drink package.
Carnivore Restaurant (Langata). The city’s best-known grill runs an NYE dinner with live entertainment. Budget approximately KES 6,000-10,000 per person including food and the show. It sells out early.
Westlands and Kilimani bars. Tribe Village Market and Sky Bar at the Trademark Hotel host ticketed countdown events. Covers are approximately KES 2,000-5,000 and entry closes when capacity is reached.
Olepolos Country Club. About 35 kilometres south of the city towards the Rift Valley, hosts an outdoor NYE concert on open hills. Transport is the challenge, so arrange a return driver.

The Coast: Diani, Watamu and Mombasa
Diani Beach. The main party strip. Resorts including Diani Reef Beach Resort & Spa and Baobab Beach Resort & Spa hold NYE buffets and beach parties, and beach bars such as Nomad Beach Bar and Restaurant and Forty Thieves Beach Bar run live-DJ nights that go until dawn. Budget approximately KES 2,000-5,000 for a bar cover, and approximately USD 80-150 per person for a resort gala dinner as of 2026. See our Diani restaurant guide.
Watamu. A quieter, more Italian-and-European crowd. Beach hotels such as Turtle Bay Beach Club hold NYE dinners, and bars on Watamu’s main beach host smaller parties.
Mombasa. The Nyali and Bamburi strip has hotel galas, and Fort Jesus and the Old Town are lively on the night. Fireworks go up over the waterfront at midnight.
Lamu. The slowest choice: dhow dinners, a candlelit table in Shela and no traffic noise. Peponi Hotel is the traditional address. See the Lamu stay guide.
The Bush: Masai Mara, Amboseli and Laikipia
Camps put on a bush dinner at a fire pit, a set menu, a countdown, and often a short staff song. This is the most distinctive Kenyan NYE, and it is also the one that sells out earliest. Mara camps such as Mara Serena Safari Lodge, Naboisho Camp and Mahali Mzuri typically take 31 December bookings by mid-year, with NYE supplements of approximately USD 50-150 per person. In Amboseli, Ol Tukai Lodge and Tortilis Camp offer a quieter night with Kilimanjaro views next morning. See our Masai Mara stay guide and Amboseli stay guide.

Transport on the Night
Nairobi. Uber and Bolt are the safest ways home, but surge pricing can double fares between 1am and 3am, and some drivers cancel on the night. Agree a return plan before you go, or book a hotel car. Traffic is heavy from 8pm in Westlands and along Waiyaki Way. If you are heading to Olepolos or Karen, arrange a driver for the full evening.
Diani. Tuk-tuks and boda-bodas run along Diani Road, but avoid riding motorbike taxis after drinking, and agree the fare first, typically KES 300-800 for short hops. Resort shuttles are the easiest choice. See our Diani getting there guide.
Between cities. Flights between Nairobi Wilson and Ukunda or the Mara strips sell out around 28-30 December. The SGR Madaraka Express train between Nairobi and Mombasa is a good option; book on the Kenya Railways site, and see our Kenya getting around guide. Full details in our Nairobi to Mombasa train guide.
Airport days. 1-2 January is the peak departure window. Allow extra time at NBO and MBA; our Nairobi airport guide covers it.
